Hi, I am 42, a Librarian (Law and Medical), and living in Sydney, Australia. My parents come from Ireland, and I have relatives living in the USA and UK. I would like to correspond with females, 30-45, from the USA, who have an interest in family history, geneaology, European/UK/US history, travel, art, literature, churches, world news/politics. I recently visited relatives in Chicago. Owen L.

I am searching for information regarding Margaret Theresa Whyte and/or her family, who left Bally James Duff in the early 1900's with her mother to go to New York City. Her mother died shortly after they arrived in New York. Mother was separated from her husband, a Protestant, while my great grandmother was a Catholic.

Looking for anyone with the name Donohue. My g-grandfather was named William J. Donohue and I am trying to find anything about him before he emigrated to the US. I don't know where he was from in Ireland, so it has been difficult to find any information about him. I believe he left Ireland around 1857 as a child. He was born in 1845 and died in 1900 in Brooklyn, NY. I would like to hear from anyone with the Donohue name or anyone that can offer any help as to how I can find out where my g-grandfather came from in Ireland. Diaph153@yahoo.com

Hi, I'm looking for penpals from Ireland who might be able to help me learn more about my family and the beautiful country they once called home. My Mother's maiden name was Daughtery (that's how she spelled it?) and the only thing I can find is that the name's origin is Donegal, Ireland. My grandparents were all deceased by the time I was born and now my Mother is deceased also so I don't have much information about my Grandfather's family. My Mother was born in 1923 so her dad would have been born in the late 1800's, probably around 1880 or so? She was his 12th child so I'm purely guessing here. If anyone could just take a few minutes to tell me if they know the origins of the family name or anything at all, it would mean a lot to me.

I'm also looking for my great grandmother, Julia Farrell, from Leitrim (?) who married Joseph Cornelius Boyle. Thanks, John Albee, Davenport, Iowa albeej@mchsi.com

Hi, I'm looking for anyone living in/around Limerick County who might know something of the McCarthy family. My great-great grandmother was Bridget McCarthy from County Limerick, possibly the northern part. Born on Feb. 2, 1819. married William J Huron and emigrated to Canada c. 1854, and on to Minn, USA c. 1858. She had several children. So far that's all I've been able to uncover about her origins. I'm looking for anyone who might have information or who can give me some tips on researching. I know she was a devout Catholic. I'd like to visit Ireland someday, to walk on the same soil as my ancestors. Have Irish on the other side of my mom's family too, but only have the name Mary Kidd, probably born around 1819 as well. NO idea where she came from, only that she lived in Pennsylvania before migrating to Wisconsin.

Would love to have an Irish epal. I am a 55 yr old woman, with deep Irish roots. Very interested in learning about Irish culture, customs, etc.

My great-grandfather(maternal) was John Delaney, born about 1840. My grandmother was Mary Ellen Delaney Burns, born in 1881 in PA. Her mother's name appears to be Catherine (no maiden name known). I'm curious to find out more - they were possibly from Cty. Laois..? My paternal GGF's name was John Burns, born about 1840 - maybe in Mayo? His youngest son was Nicholas Michael Burns born in 1880 in Coal City, PA I think. Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Everyone is gone, I'm 64, orphaned at five, and no one to ask for info. Thanks! Gretchen Maze Kohls

Gretchen Maze Kohls - 10:41pm Jul 1, 2008 Irish (#530 of 531)

I know very little of my antecedents. My grandmother (maternal) was Mary Ellen Delaney (Mamie),daughter of John and Catherine Delaney. She was born in 1880, in PA. Her parents were born in Ireland @1840. Grandad was Nicholas Michael Burns, b. 1879 in Coal City, PA. His father was John Delaney, born in Ireland @1840. My father's mother was Helen Bower Morgan, born in 1880, maybe in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia, PA. Grandfather was Merle Anson Maze, born @1879 in PA to Harrison Maze and Araminta Jane Riley. He may have been born in Barnett Woods. My parents were killed in an auto accident, Nov. 22, 1948,and everyone is gone now. I'm about to turn 65, and would like to know more. I've traced the name Delaney to Cty. Laois. Don't know any more. Can anyone help? Thanks! Gretchen Maze Kohls
